Contracts

General

When you hire a contractor to repair storm damages, you will be a party to a contract with the individual or company making the repairs.

Basically, a contract is an exchange of promises and the law provides a remedy when a party to the cont, fails to perform as promised.

Elements of a Contract for Repairs or Rebuilding

The contract should be in writing and the writing should include a detailed list of the elements of the performances promised, including:

  1. Price.

  2. Date when work will begin and completion date.

  3. Payment dates.

  4. Special provisions related to rebuilt.

Payment

Insist on receipts when reimbursing contractors for materials, labor, and/or progress payments.

Withhold full payment until you are satisfied that the work has been completed as promised in the contract.
